Extension release for 3ds Max and Maya 2015.

Post by MauricioPC » 12 Aug 2014, 21:24

Finally 3ds Max has OpenSubdiv, Alembic and a improved ShaderFX. From the video, Neil Blevins goes on to say that the implamentation of OpenSubdiv on Max is better than Maya because of some features to improve selection of edges to crease.

Some nice videos about workflows of 3ds Max in FX TV.

A interview with Joker Martini (a great guy and a very good tool developer).

Intro to OpenSubdiv on Max by Neil Blevins.

And ... the new features in Maya, that are kind of hidden, I only found out about it on the Autodesk YouTube channel.

Maya 2015 has MMB on menus for repeat command, H to toggle visibility like Softimage, and several modeling enhancements from the softimage tweak tool.

That Mudbox to Max texture doesn't work, the painted have darker edges in Max render.

Yeah, I realized some Softimage work flows on Maya, but the videos focused on other stuff and the area link for features was broken.

I guess after the fiasco of Max news last Siggraph and the new feature of Maya, AD marketing decided to be more Max friendly this year.

Anyway, some cool stuff for Max finally.

And I think he used different texture because he ddoesn't save the texture. I'm not sure.

Just a little heads-up of my own: while the Max 2015 extension has apparently been released already,
the Maya 2015 hasn't - it has only been announced as of yet.
I read somewhere the actual release is planned on September 10, 2014.

thanks Hirazi for the link.
It's nice to see some cool softimage workflow ported to Maya!
I was wondering if this has to make to some extent with Luceric, as he's involved to Maya's UI and he knows the guts of Softimage.

Funny how, in mine interpretation, he's talking a lot here about softimage compounds and how you can share it with others. The same way Houdini does with it's digital assets system. There's even a ICE print at the beginning!

-- EDIT --

So people thought ICE was difficult? Come on ... ICE is easier than Maya modeling! :P

Yeah, I talked before I watched the whole thing. There's some nice stuff in there and he explains why BiFrost will be superior to ICE. It's just the "ICE is difficult" that probably you guys had from clients is a pita.

It's seems like BiFrost "complete" will be ready for 2016, when Softimage stops from being supported (he talked about a 3 years timeframe).

Yes, interesting how he says they plan to make the assets shareable with other applications. Is there going to be a "Maya Engine"?
