Friction issues with ICE RB Simulation

Post by Pete » 08 Mar 2010, 05:50

Hi there,

I'm having some weird issues with ICE Rigid body simulations where it seems as though no friction is applied to the particles.
Particles Land on the surface okay...

But don't move as the belt moves

any ideas what could be wrong here?
Thanks

Could you show us some more (your ICE tree, for example, and some of your used settings)? ;)

Make sure that you set both DynamicFriction and StaticFriction on both the particles and the collision objects. DynamicFriction will slow down moving particles, and StaticFriction will make it harder to start moving again. Both values may need to be adjusted depending on the strength of the forces in your scene.

Hi guys,
thanks for that but I'm still unable to get it to work as expected. Maybe I'm applying the friction in the wrong place?

I attached the model file too. In case anyone's interested.

Not sure, but I think your friction values are wrong:
The value range for either type of friction is between 0 and 1, with 0 being no friction (free movement) and 1 being full friction (no movement). You cannot enter negative values or values over 1.
You probably have to set both friction parameter to somewhere BELOW "1", as "1" represents "full friction (no movement)" ;)
