Mudbox at 10$/month

Post by Maximus » 11 May 2014, 13:09

Another weird move from Autodesk.
I guess the development on Mudbox is dead.

Slap in the face for people who bought it for 1k$ imo.

Either that or they finally are trying to regain some market share from ZBrush,
as they apparently lowered prices on the perpetual license also...
;)

Well i'm not sure how the development gonna be funded with 10$ month rental. Thats why i was quite shocked. its way too cheap almost free. So i'm guessing next step is giving it for free like Toxic/composite ;)

HAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA !!! That's all the signs of failure right there !! Mudbox is pure CRAP !! So over rated.

I spent a whole week trying to come up with a decent result with MBox and only came up with poor results. Then they use the cheap excuses, Mudbox is for only for detailing not for sculpting. After spending a day or two learning ZBrush, I end up with more than what I had in mind and the end result was astonishing !

You know what Autodesk, just be honest for once and admit that the core of Mudbox is very limited. It wouldn't kill you... at least not literally.

Tbh Mudbox painting system is incredibly awesome, sculpting is way under Zbrush, but the painting, photoshop layer system alike is amazing. You dont need to subdivide the geometry like crazy to being able to paint on it.

Then they should focus on making it useful like Maxon's Body Paint or Foundry's Mari. I'm surprised you actually said that coz I found it to be less effective. But in any case Mudbox lost my sale, it is not for me.

Who's "they" and when was this? Just curious: it reads like this was part of some event.

Mudbox looks fine at first glance, but once you actually try to work with it you quickly will struggle to achieve anything at all. It lacks totally basic tools and functionality and is buggy as hell. We actually tried using it on several projects but literally everyone gave up on it.

Would someone care to elaborate on what it was they were trying to in Mudbox. It would be interesting to know what led people to be so negative about it.

Mudbox has excellent true 3D sculpting and painting abilities, both of which are vastly underrated by many people. And it's actually used very extensively in more places then people might realise. Zbrush and MARI are very fine packages, but in some areas (imo) Mudbox beats them hands down.

Another thing to also note, is that together with the new desktop subscription plan for Mudbox, the perpetural license price has also changed as well, with a standalone seat now costing just a little over £500.
