Hi,
it sometimes helps the process of letting go (should the day come...) if you remember the things that actually sucked in Softimage - and there are quite a few, honestly.
(Autodesk-inflicted slow development rate aside for a moment...)
Hate me if you like, but I'll throw in some:
- SDK restrictions / SI not being a 'platform'
- hardwired to Windows - no (native) Linux or OSX port feasible
- incomplete ICE implementation with Nurbs curves and surfaces
- instabilities with RefModels and Passes (this almost drove me crazy at my last job...)
- if for whatever reason you need to use mental ray, you are somewhat bottom of the foodchain...
- UI not fully configurable - not all menus have hooks; not all menu commands mappable to a single command (there's hardwired C++, some scripts... bit of a mess...)
- no customizable hotbox/quad menu o.o.t.b.
- redundant and misplaced menu entries, e.g. menu Edit > Operator / MCP > Edit > Operator are not the same. Besides, this kind of stuff belongs in the Explorer context menu.
- operator stack quirks that never got fixed - moving operators around is often forbidden, but suddenly not if you do it some other way.
- no UV sliding in modeling operators
- no 'attach' operators o.o.t.b. (curves, surfaces, polymeshes) to combine geometry without creating a new scene object.
- no texture painting
- somewhat chaotic painting tools interface/toolbar
...

... and of course
- the incomplete Nurbs curve/surface tools
- the stupid restrictions of extrude/revolve operators taking only the first subcurve
- no automatic UVs for primitives, or the CurvesToMesh operator
