Your Thread of the Year?

It's year end and everyone makes their lists.

My Thread of the Year is not related to Softimage at all, or even on a forum I'd normally go to. But I can't help thinking about it, because it's ruined my appreciation for WIP/Critique forums.

The thread was found on the user forum for Keyshot, Henrik Wann Jensen's renderer, and it's called : 777 BUGATTI.

It's not obvious at all what's wrong at first. However, sharp eyes users realized that the images are essentially just a projection mapping of a photo on a mesh that doesn't quite even align with what's on the photo, rendered from the same perspective as the photo. So it's pretty much.... 2d. The user also has a portfolio on cgtalk that's also photos taken from the web, with the praises of other users. It'll make you doubt everything you see..

My thread of the year isn't Softimage related either. It isn't even actually one thread, but several threads across several forums, when word got out, Adobe were apparently giving away CS2 "for free". Internet event of the year, in my book...

Interesting. Well a good defense to the fakery is just to ask the renderer to shift the camera to the side or better make a small animation.

I don't think i have a thread, for now it is just noise. I think the Softimage best works are inpirational but it is not a discussion.

Where have you been hiding this past year, McNistor? IMHO, there were plenty of threads that could/should be nominated if such an award were to exist and this wouldn't even be my clear favorite, frankly...

@luceric - I understand what you mean, although it wasn't that futile if you don't merely look at its intended stated purpose, but more at the feeling it was trying to express, I guess.

@all - But let's leave the "threads as an exercise in futility award" in the realm of the fictional for now (as it is a highly volatile subject within any forum) and focus on the memorable threads, which obviously may or may not include one or more futile one as well...

I second that one ... and the launch of softimage.tv. All in all, it was a fun year.

my thread is probably the long Cycles strand rendering thread on Blender artists. Actually work of young master Stuart Broadfoot. Especially impressive how he takes care about entire system, adding options one by one. Also all that people, courageously getting into this stuff.

By the way, didn't know that mr. Wann Jensen is behind Keyshot. So, dr. dr. Sheldon Cooper finally learned how to drive a car Never too late, anyway ...

Yeah, no, I think I know what it means: A course of action doomed to be futile.
If the purpose of this thread is to nominate a thread of the year based on popularity/nominations, then it is doomed to be futile.

Perhaps I misunderstood the purpose of this thread. That, I'm willing to concede.
