Voxels. First in axis inside a volume?

Post by Bullit » 06 Dec 2013, 23:05

There are some Voxel ICE addons around but all i have found have not the capability to just to have only the first voxels that are seen by the camera. What should be the best approach to this situation? would first valid node be something to apply for this?

sry, maybe I do not understand you correctly - but you want that only the voxels/particles get build, that your camera on the first frame is looking at?

if so, like that?

Correct, wonderful. Is that a current ice node? I don't remember it.

It seems it is not quite what i want. I need only the first voxels not those that are behind the first ones. I need a voxel wall with only one depth level.

If you are emitting them from a mesh, you can test distance to surface to delete the inner particles.
To base the deletion on the cameras view would be more complex, but doable, I'm sure.

you could directly work with even point distribution on surface and do the camera stuff on that?.

That would produce quite a different effect though

Yes. I am thinking also to trying another solution: using only the frontal polygons and delete remaining mesh.
Since i will not be rotating the mesh or moving the camera any voxel is a performance hit.
Problem is that several voxel compounds around are only for enclosed mesh.

hi,
emTools by eric mootz, permits you to do just that, just look at his lasts videos there is a part when he emit voxels, then use a mode to delete the inner particles but keeping the one on surface, couple that to an incidence by the camera and you are good

Thanks, had finally time to look at this. Unfortunately doesn't work with emtools as is.

I don't want to delete the inner particles i want to delete all particles except the first in a certain axis, also anotehr node that might have helped the equal distribution on surface does not work well in objects that have planar faces planar.
