The long awaited tablet PC from Wacom, for the "digital artist". Comes in two flavors, the "Cintiq Companion" (Windows 8) and "Cintiq Companion Hybrid" (Android).
Not cheap, but definitely interesting.

That's a tad on the expensive side.

You can get yourself a decent W8 tabet with a Wacom digitizer for a lot less.
But interesting nonetheless..

Which one, for example?
The MS Surface for example is just too small with it's 10 something inches, I tried. You get the eye bleed from those tiny UI icons.

The Surface Pro is fine by me, for sketching and stuff the Sketchbook Pro UI works great for instance.

But I agree the desktop can get a little tiny on 10" and the basic scaling.
On the other hand, I don't use the basic desktop that much on my Pro, as most Windows applications completely ignore desktop scaling anyway. Thank you Adobe.....
But for that the pen comes in I guess.
Linked to a external monitor makes this issue goes away btw, than it's just a little netbooky thing.
The Metro UI on the other hand works just great on a tablet.

But 13" tablets with a Wacom digitizers would be nice with the extra space, I'm very interested in what the new Haswells will bring us regarding batterylife. All this extra screen space + a digitizer has to be powered somehow for longer than 3 hours or so... ;-)

btw.. any chance on meeting in Siegen again this year?

Not that spectacular, you can buy a Bamboo, or if you have the old Graphire as I have and bring it with you and hook it up to a computer. Nothing beats having a 22/24 Cintiq, that is the ultimate !

Yes, because hauling a 22" Cintiq everywhere is so convenient.......

There's a reason that 7-10" tablets are popular. Jeez....

The idea is not to be bound to a desk, of course.

I had a Cintiq 21UX and sold it a while ago because I found it too awkward to work with. My back started aching after 10 minutes, no matter how I turned it. Never again.

Well, I know that, mobility is in, because no one has a home any longer, as it appears sarcastically speaking. Why buy this, when you can buy a tablet.

Edit: What I meant is, it appears that everyone is on the "go" no one has time to sit at as desk, that is why Wacom and other companies are making mobile products.

Nice that they do!
I'm not on the go for work mostly, but I would like to, at least occasionally. Also, I'd like to do live drawing on it (nothing against paper...).

Wacom has the Bamboo Styles Solo, for tablets. The new Cintiq Companion is essentially, a tablet in disguise.

Eugen is right.

Even though al lot of us are stationary at our desks (or couch after work...), lugging around something huge and heavy is not really an option.

I also use my Pro as a notebook, having all my doodles and notes/thoughts in one place. And that format of 10" is small and light enough to take around with ease.
And still being able to do 'proper' work on it is worth a ton.

edit: The Cintiq Companion isn't really a tablet in disguise. It's basically a dedicated Tablet PC, as existed since the mid '90's.

That is a tablet in disguise, it's facade is a creative tool. Behind the facade it's a tablet, there fore a, tablet in disguise.

I thought Cintiq Companion was still using Ivy Bridge....... I'm waiting for Surface 2 /w Haswell.........

PS. Have you run Zbrush on your Surface Pro? How's that?

No, sorry. I don't have a ZBrush license. But I do have Sculptris running on the Pro.
And that runs quite nicely, after you get used to the silly tablet based controls in the app.

Keep in mind the Pro has the i5/HD4000 combo, so running apps based heavily on OpenGL will suffer some form of performance hit at some point I guess.
But with the apps I'm running atm, haven't seen much issues yet.

And I'm also very interested in what MS is doing for a Surface Pro 2.
Looking at the latest Macbook Air battery life, doubling the battery life for the Pro 2 should be plausible, ending up around 9-12 hours of usage.... :-)

Speaking of HD4000, any visual quarks with Softimage running on the intel gpu? Do you have to lower opengl in env variable, like older intel gpus?
