Deform one object by another's faceshape

Post by Skippy » 17 Aug 2013, 10:01

Hi all.

I'm doing some R&D into deforming one object by another's faceshapes. I need to have a characters eyebrows and moustache (separate objects) follow his faceshapes. The way I've had to do this before is make separate shapes for the brows and link them to the face's shape sliders, but there must be a better way that also works with Doritos or similar approaches.

ICE seems a promising solution. To deform an object based on the offset from original closest locations to a mesh, since locations will follow the shapes.

I've attached and scene where I'm testing ICE and other methods. Enveloping to nulls attached to clusters doesn't seem to work for me, nor does deforming by an extracted spline. I've had some success with ICE, but the dicrection of the reproduced offset seems a bit off (especially on extreme shapes)

Please can someone check if my ICE method is as correct as it could be, and perhaps explain why the other methods are not working, or guide me towards a better way to make mesh eyebrows follow a face?

Thanks in advance :D
