Post by hidalgoserra » 27 May 2013, 07:57

Hello there

i am working on an animatic that have a huge amount of cameras in the same scene and the way xsi manage cameras its really limited, does anybody knows of any script/ice compounds or plugins that gives you a camera lister and more tools to select and manage cameras, theyre frame range and so on?
thanks for any tip

Closest thing would probably be the new camera sequencer in 2014. other than that I'm not sure there is anything publicly available (off the top of my head). Maybe look at http://www.rray.de/xsi/

Unfortunatly i am finishing the project in 2012 still :S

Anyway the sequencer of the 2014 doesnt give any real improvements for the main management, of course makes easy to organize frames, but you still dont have an organize access to the cameras.
BTW I am actually using a lot your super handy tool animstore you should work out something about cameras too :D if you cant do it no one in the world can hehe (just kidding)
thanks for the tip anyway.

Well, in this case, the meaning is that cameras can be controlled really on a limited basis, if you work with huge scenes who have 20 to 40 cameras in it, with different angles and of course frame ranges you need to have a quick way to select the cameras and have better controll of them if this is not the case you will find yourself digging into the usual properties like a labirtynth..

Well there is nothing built in to Softimage to store the frame ranges each camera is used for. You'll have to have custom properties on each camera that defines this. Then a UI that looks at those and displays the information in an elegant way and also allows you to edit them as well.

This is a custom tool / plug-in that you need and very specific to your workflow / a studio's workflow that is not necessarily how other people work.
