multi-instance input ports (2014)

Post by Hirazi Blue » 25 May 2013, 14:24

Could be user (=me) error, but I just tried to create a compound with a multi-instance input port and failed miserably. No matter what I click in the drop-down menu, I get a single connection. It even gets saved that way in the xsicompound file. What could I be doing wrong or is this perhaps some already known bug I missed while healing my broken arm?
:-?

So much i remember right, you can only instance ports which have the "New" value.
As examples, the "Multiply" has the "New (Value2)..." and the "Group Geometry" has the "New (Geometry1)...".
This ports must then have the expose type "Multi - Connect New Ports to Existing Node"

It is also possible to create a dropdown menu for single values, like integer or scalar, where defined values can be chosen.

Usually this works, at least, there's number of compounds in Kristinka Hair, with multiple inputs allowed. Never ever heard complain related to this feature. An no one input is named "new" :).
There are some rules to obey, I think all are described in help - like only one node at the end of input chain. Nested compound has to be exported first, I think nested compound don't like another one nested into (might be wrong, there). Input node has to be one which allow additions, like geo reference, execute, add, multiply.
If you want it to be launched by geo reference, together with number of parameters to spread into all copies, passthrough node is your friend.

And the name of the port where you can plug in the additional input is called "New (NameOfThePort)"
