softimage freezing up

Hello everybody!
i seem to be having a problem and its becoming very annoying. Whenever i access softimage 2013 or 2014 x64-bit, it works fine when it first launches up but if i choose anything else from the "file" tab, softimage freezes up and just doesnt kill process unless i spam end process for a few decades.
i have Python 26 installed along with GEAR.
need help please!

if i drag and drop the scene onto softimage it opens the scene normally.. but if i press Ctrl+O it crashes or even if i save as, it crashes... very strange...

you probably have a drive letter mapped to a network drive that is down.

how do i fix that?

in windows explorer, disconnect from network drives, or otherwise unresponsive drive letters

i right clicked network settings and then disconnect from network drives then tried softimage again but still crashing.
can you please guide me step by step im a little noobie when it comes to this stuff..
i have work and i cant even use softimage =(

its frozen up again.. i dont know why this has happened yet again but its very annoying and i cant work...
any suggestions to fix?
i tried disconnect network drive but XSI still crashing whenever i press Ctrl+O or Ctrl+S...........

maybe its because i have 2014 and 2013 installed at the same time? it was working well with 2013 alone.

Clear your user preferences, there is probably a project or favorites (which are shown in a popup in the file open dialog) referring to a dead drive. should not freeze more than one minute I think, btw

how do i clear preferences? i never tried that before

i just deleted C:\Users\User\Autodesk\softimage 2014 and 2013 and went back into softimage again.. same problems..
why is it doing this???

the software works but whenever i try to save or open, it takes 30 minutes for it to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
guys please help im getting desperate
