tearing aprt cloth

Can anybody lead me to tutorials that help with this effect?

I must tear apart a mesh as if it was ripping apart and flaking off. Where do I even start?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

ICE Syflex is where to start using the zipper node and disconnected edges.
