Create a weight map on the object. Then select your points and open the weight editor. Use the tools in there to set the values on the selected points. Otherwise, you'll have to script it.

Yeah it depends on whether you want a complete weight map for all points and the weights set to 1 based on your selection OR whether you just want a weight map that only covers the selected faces / points which is what Stephen showed how to do.

Eric's solution is more what I was looking for. I want to use the weight map with tim_SyflexJiggle. But Steve your tip is great never had thought about that.
