Elastic band rig

I'm looking for someone who can solve a problem for me - I need it done fast and hopefully someone can jump on this quick.

Following image explains the basic idea:


The band needs to be elastic so that I can stretch to whatever height/length.
The band needs to match the shape of whatever it is touching. The image shows a band wrapping a box and that's on the simpler end of the scale. The true challenge is to match the shape of something more complex - lets way an elephants back - an animated elephant on top of that.
The setup must be flexible enough to use in different scenarios.

Yes, pretty much something like that (and using Syflex). Not something I'd be able to come up with within a reasonable amount of time.

In the end Ice is used to calculate point positions with a basic raycast and interpolated arrays which then is used for a curve which is then simulated with syflex to achieve better collisions.

Real Mesh Collision Detection and Handling through Ice is still quite complex I guess and Syflex is the easier solution to handle this. Raycast didnt work for me for more or less a simple reason: in which direction u gonna cast the ray ?
