Plugin Ideas for 2014

Post by angus_davidson » 29 Mar 2013, 16:49

All this jumping up an down about features / non features / wishlists for 2015 and beyond has got me thinking. There might be quite a lot of things that we need that would work better as a plugin that could possibly be used in previous versions as well. These woudl most liekly be things we are already doing manually or working around .It would also allow small useful things to be done quickly outside of the annual update cycle. Whether this is done by SI devs, 3rd Party or a combo of the two would most likely depend on the actual Plugin.

To start off my suggestion for a plugin. (have mentioned this before in previous posts but it makes more sense here)

Mecurial/SVN integration. Using the Mecurial one as the example as I currently use this manually and it works very well.

Allow you to use the following functionality easily from within the SI Program

hg init project # Create the Intial Source Control Folder for this project
hg add (file) # Tell Mercurial to track the currently loaded scene
hg diff # Most likely only practical on the TOC, Scripts etc
hg commit # save the current scene to the Source Control Folder most likely with a note
hg log # see history and possibly have a decent way to rollback via hg update.

Lets see what else folks would like. Please note this is not for big implementations , ie things that should be in the feature releases

Just thought of another one. This is a purely cosmetic one though.

This one is fairly simple in concept, but not to sure how tricky it would be to execute.

Its simply would allow you to replace the current SI tileset (ie the images that define the look and feel of SI) with different ones. ie Allow you to change the look and feel of the UI. As much as I love SI as a program , the universal greyness is chipping away at my soul!

I like that last cosmetic one.. it would make the program "appear" to be dynamic and flexible! Which it is, but to the eye it would be awesome. Also it would bring a new set of people who mod the program and the like. =P Studio based interfaces, etc. Would be fun.
