Instances and original file SRT

Post by Bullit » 24 Mar 2013, 01:11

Got some files(FBX) from another software and the mesh position, scale, rotation is okay in Softimage.
But when i turn them into ICE instances the SRT is all messed up. Any idea of what to look for and fix?

Can you give more info? Do the meshes have a hierarchy? Their SRT values are 1,1,1 - 0,0,0 - 0,0,0? What do you mean by "messed up"?

Thanks for reply. The instances scale, position was different than the correctly imported meshes in the scene.
But i think i just fixed it with freeze all transforms + move center to bounding box in the meshes. After this 2 steps the Instances seem to respect the position and can be acted by Motiontools Gustavo's plugin nodes.

It seems your imported object had transformations "baked into" its geometry (i.e. the center of the object was not in the center of the mesh). By resetting the center to the mesh's bounding box you converted these transformations into SRT transformations. And those don't bother the ICE instances. You can move your master object freely around in the scene as long as you do it with SRT. However, moving the vertices will shift the instance position (because by moving vertices you move them away from the object's center and thus away from the ICE position).

Thanks. So what you called baking shifted the vertices.
