Hi all, i've googled this issue and it seems i'm not the only one with this problem. Basically, the SAME image, if rendered with the user interface looks fine, but if i try to render it with the Batch Render by Prompt Command, turns out with some grainy noise on the darkest part....
My output it's set to Png sequence, and for work purpose i can't change it.
Batch render looks grainy...

Sounds strange to me - the only thing I can think of is that you have some prefs set that the UI is accessing that the batch is not, are you running the batch on your machine, using the same login and running from the Softimage CMD?

yea, the machine is the same from the same account by Softimage CMD. THe only reason i want to use the batch is that the crowd simulation render crash randomly, so with the batch i just have to restart the command, with the UI i've to close softimage, reopen it and so on.Sandy_S wrote:Sounds strange to me - the only thing I can think of is that you have some prefs set that the UI is accessing that the batch is not, are you running the batch on your machine, using the same login and running from the Softimage CMD?

I've searched for this grain issue, and a couple of people had this too, appears to be a gamma problem, cause i'm working with 2,2 by preferences. Unfortunately, they not found a solution...

Re: Batch render looks grainy...
i think png auto unpremultiply...
So try to check on/off premult in MR
you could also try the checkbox "apply display gamma correction" on your pass, but i doubt it...
you could also try to batchrender with the xsi command vs the xsibatch one
PS: id you render exr they can be batch converted to pngs in softimage fxtree via xsibatch if you need to ;-)

-i can't check off premult, cause i need the alpha channel to composite the pass later
- apply display gamma correction i already on
- i don't remember right now if i already tried both xsi and xsibatch, i'll give a try tomorrow

Re: Batch render looks grainy...
grainy? what is grainy?
when you write user inferface, do you mean the render current pass feature in xsi or the render region?
because the render region is clamping the color values so it could be this. use the render current pass or preview feature on the machine where the rendering looks fine and compare with batch render.
