Post by clankill3r » 07 Feb 2013, 09:05

I'm trying to asign the color of the texture to the particles, so far everything is balck:

For the 'Get Texture Map Color' node i have set the Location to 'Clips.noIcon_pic'.

what is wrong?

looks to me like you dont have a texture map assigned to the sphere.

select sphere, assign texture map

a texture map is NOT a normal material texture its a 'special' one that can be seen by ICE and HAIR :) read up on what a texture map is.

once you have one then 'get texture map' will get the color correctly - you pick the texture map name not the image clip as well.

and with a applied texture map there's no need to use the closest location node.

sorry Mr Tartan to be a pedantic arse, but the example above with just add point there is no emit location created so he will still have to get a closest location to interrogate the particles position in relation to the texture map.

normally the emit location attribute is created per particle with any of the 'emit from...' nodes

I assigned a texture map but it's still black :S

Are the black spheres shapes? If so i think you can't give them a texture.

In self.shape put an instance shape and choose the sphere then with self.size manage the size you want. I think you even don't need the texture map.

your argument is invalid , it certainly does work if setup correctly. this is really simple stuff but am giving you the benefit of the fact that no-one is born with this information. The only way I can see this not working is if

a) you have no selected 'input location' from the pulldown list that you get when you double click on the 'get texture map color' node
b) you have renamed the texture map other than default or have 'explored' the location to the wrong place.

open up the 'get texture map' compound. (the small e that appears when mouse is over) is it red inside? at leas one of them should be valid for it to work

This sets up something like what tekano was showing you.

Code: Select all

Application.CreatePrim("Sphere", "MeshSurface", "", "")
Application.Create2DMap("", "", "siDefaultPropagation")
Application.CreateProjection("sphere", "siTxtSpherical", "siTxtDefaultSpherical", "Texture_Support", "Texture_Projection", "", "", "")
Application.SetInstanceDataValue("", "sphere.Texture_Map.UVReference", "Texture_Projection")
Application.GetPrim("PointCloud", "", "", "")
Application.ApplyOp("ICETree", "pointcloud", "siNode", "", "", 0)
Application.AddICECompoundNode("Get Texture Map Color", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree")
Application.AddICENode("$XSI_DSPRESETS\\ICENodes\\AddPointNode.Preset", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree")
Application.SelectObj("sphere", "", "")
Application.AddICENode("GetDataNode", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree")
Application.SetValue("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.SceneReferenceNode.reference", "sphere", "")
Application.SetValue("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.SceneReferenceNode.reference", "sphere.PointPosition", "")
Application.ConnectICENodes("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.AddPointNode.positions1", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.SceneReferenceNode.value")
Application.AddICECompoundNode("Set Data", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree")
Application.SetValue("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.Set_Data.Reference", "self.shape", "")
Application.SetValue("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.Set_Data.Value", 4, "")
Application.AddPortToICENode("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.Set_Data.Value", "siNodePortDataInsertionLocationAfter")
Application.SetValue("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.Set_Data.Reference1", "self.size", "")
Application.SetValue("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.Set_Data.Value1", 0.15, "")
Application.ConnectICENodes("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.AddPointNode.oncreation1", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.Set_Data.Execute")
Application.ConnectICENodes("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.port1", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.AddPointNode.add")
Application.AddICENode("$XSI_DSPRESETS\\ICENodes\\GetClosestLocationNode.Preset", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree")
Application.AddICENode("GetDataNode", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree")
Application.SetValue("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.SceneReferenceNode[1].reference", "sphere", "")
Application.ConnectICENodes("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.GetClosestLocationNode.geometry", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.SceneReferenceNode[1].value")
Application.ConnectICENodes("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.Get_Texture_Map_Color.InputLocation", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.GetClosestLocationNode.location")
Application.SetValue("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.Get_Texture_Map_Color.Select_Location", 5, "")
Application.AddPortToICENode("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.Set_Data.Value1", "siNodePortDataInsertionLocationAfter")
Application.ConnectICENodes("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.Set_Data.Value2", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.Get_Texture_Map_Color.Color")
Application.SetValue("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.Set_Data.Reference2", "self.Color", "")
Application.AddICECompoundNode("Get Particle Position", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree")
Application.ConnectICENodes("pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.GetClosestLocationNode.position", "pointcloud.pointcloud.ICETree.Get_Particle_Position.Position")
Application.SetValue("sphere.polymsh.geom.subdivu", 24, "")
Application.SetValue("sphere.polymsh.geom.subdivv", 24, "")
I'm going to guess you didn't change to Input Location in Get Texture Map Color.

and this might explain things better.

because you never set any data to the emitlocation (the default location set to look up on 'get texture color' compound) it will be black = no data

if you delete the one you have and bring in a brand new default 'get texture color' compound it will now work correctly as expected if you first put some data into emitlocation like below. so a small change to your tree will give you default anticipated behaviour without having to explore the 'get texture map color' compound or select an option within its list of locations
