CAV Map painting crashes xsi 7.01

Has anyone had any issue with CAV maps in XSI 7.01? i tried doing a search of these forums for "cav map" and "color at vertices map" but didn't come up with anything. anyway, i've been getting a pretty consistent crash of xsi 7.01 when i do any cav map painting (especially with the erase button pressed in teh brush setting palette). i can paint/erase weight maps as expected but the cav maps crash me every time. does anyone else have this problem and know of any fix for it that is either out there or that autodesk is working on? thanks!
