Get SRTs at specific frame

Post by Pancho » 11 Jan 2013, 22:54

is there an easy way to get the srts of e.g. a camera at a certain frame? I'd like to set up several cameras automatically for front projections by looking at the srts of the render camera at certain frames. Would it also be possible to get the fov? There's only the get data at previous frame, but that's not really enough.

cheers!

A bit of a hack, but if the values are driven by fcurves then you can get a constant scalar node and put an expression on its value. For example:

at_frame( 1, Camera.kine.global.posy )

You can use one for each of the SRT XYZ parameters and build up the full transform matrix that way. More info about at_frame: http://download.autodesk.com/global/doc ... d30e478432

To make it easier to change all the frame values at once use a reference to a custom parameter in the expression:

at_frame( CustomPSet.Param, Camera.kine.global.posy )

BTW one limitation of using expressions this way is that they will not be stored if you export a compound.

Thanks! I just checked a bit more and came across the "Get Action source at frame" node, but have no idea what an action source is. Could this be of any help? The expression thing looks rather horrible. What about writing the kine.globals into an array and let the cameras take a look at these arrays? But as cameras don't have any regions for evaluation I guess I could run into cycle problems.

An action source is a snippet of animation that has been stored for potential use in the animation mixer. That's another possible approach, but if you aren't using a clip of that source to drive the camera animation, then the stored values in the source aren't guaranteed to be the actual values at that frame.

Something like this would be cool:

Wondering, would the SDK allow to write a custom ICE node that does this?
