For what its worth, Adobe is giving away CS2 Suite for free.

What's the catch? Is it for non-commercial use only, available for some period of time or what?

No catch, it's the real deal, the full CS2 suite for commercial use. Serial numbers and everything right there.

IMO, its a really smart marketing ploy. Giving away CS2 gives you the "suite" experience and that hopefully will translate into a monthly subscription for CS6.

I'm pretty sure they meant this only for existing clients of CS2. They removed the license activation from the binaries, because they want to take down the activation servers (according to gizmodo)

It would be a pretty crazy move to release cs2 for everyone - most people wouldn't need any more than that, later versions have some fancy workflow stuff but nothing essential (apart from file formats maybe? HiDef formats, exr support?)

Yeah, it's the real deal. I just installed Disk 1, and Photoshop is working just fine. Created a new psd, drew something, saved to disk with no problem.

Because, its from 2005. They (Adobe) figured its not that big of a deal. It wont run on OSX Mountain Lion for instance (you'd have to VM). I'm pretty sure since their servers are now crashed, they are rethinking that assumption.

But, its already too late. It's in the wild. Folks are already "hosting" the files elsewhere. All legal and free.

There's no going back now either. Because, Adobe recompiled and removed the call to the authorization servers from the CS2 Suite authorization, and replaced it with the hard coded serial #'s listed on the webpage.

Why they can't say it straight: "From now on some of the CS2 programs are available for free"?

What about licenses? Can you test validity of those keys somewhere on Adobe site?

How I prove that my key was generated by Adobe and not by a keygen, if you know what I mean?
