Replace instance....

Post by Pete » 07 Jan 2013, 11:48

Hi dudes!

Just wondering if there's an easy way to replace an instance with a high res version?
I'm wondering because I'd like to simulate some rigid body particles with low res geo then switch to high res for the render.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Pete

Create a second point cloud. Read all relevant data from the first point cloud (Pointposition, Orientation, Scale) and set the same values for the second point cloud. For the particle shape use your highres instance.

When reading attributes from the first point cloud and setting it on the second, you'll have to:
Get Data -> Build array from set -> Select in Array (Index = Point ID) -> Set Data (or possibly the middle two nodes can be replaced by a Switch Context, not sure)

Create a 2nd PointCloud and use the ClonePoint node which does this kinda stuff for you.

To set the 2nd PointCloud to use the highres shape, plug a Set Instance Shape into the OnCreate port of the ClonePoint Node on the 2nd PointCloud that points to this highres shape.

Cool thanks!
I'm not in front of it right now but this sounds like it's going to work great.
I hadn't seen the clonepoint node, is this a 2013 thing??

Haha, I had no idea this node existed :D

In some situations:

An ice tree with Set data node with self.shape reference. Link with the instance shape node with object you want. This should be above all other nodes for example in Post Simulation.
