Tranformation Question

Post by Falam » 28 Dec 2012, 18:01

Hi, I have a few questions regarding transformations in Softimage, I hope someone can answer.

I had come across something, somewhere, that mentioned SRT in Softimage works on it's own Axis while Neutral Pose works on it's parent. In other words, if I move a box, that is in normal SRT mode within Softimage. If that Box is the parent of a sphere and I rotate the Sphere the box will rotate as well. If you are setting a Neutral pose, you are setting the post for the parent and the children, am I understanding this correctly ?

One other thing, when you add a period after or within a condition it is a element ?

Child objects inherit the transforms of their parents but parent objects do not inherit transform data from their children, if you rotate a box that is child to a sphere the box will only rotate. If you rotate the parent object however the child object will rotate.

Setting a neutral pose simply just makes it so that it's local transforms are 0,0,0 without altering its center so that if you hit reset all transforms the object will return to the pose you had it in when you applied the neutral pose rather than snapping the models center back to 0,0,0 globally.

All these things can be easily explained in the help files under parenting and neutral poses or just by experimentation.

Neutral poses IMO are most helpful on rig controllers to get the rig back to a base pose or T pose by applying a neutral pose to all controllers.

I'll read the docs specifically on this, if anyone wants to add to it, go ahead :)
