"Ice procedural modeling" i need your feedbacks and advices

Post by fabilabo » 26 Nov 2012, 08:54

Hi all,

I maybe will have a big architectural project, and its probably the good opportunity to try ice procedural modeling (i've just saw a nice houdini tut for that :) but before to get deeper and waste a lot of time, i really need your feedbacks and advices.

let see a part of a plan :

i have all DWG plan, then, i can use the linear curves to make wall, doors etc.

questions :
- is it easy to convert Ice modeling into a real object for easy manage and texture it ? i mean, a freezed polygonal cloned object ?
- can i use a bounch of curves (group) to automatically generate walls ?
- can i do something to generate doors ? drill walls ?
- there is some tutorials about it ?
- do you thing its easier in ice or in regular modeling ?
- any advices ?

Thank you very much, it can be exiting to try ide modeling but i never tried it before and i dont want to waste my time too much to test it and realize its easier in regular mode

Well I don't use very much ICE modeling so in my case I'll stick to ICE instancing for this.
Plus I don't really see the point to use ICE modeling in this case but for the walls....

For example Nulls placing instances and for texturing you can always pass a vector attribute to slide your UVs in the render tree. No ?

You know, Motion Tools might be perfect for something like this. Some of those nodes could be used to this wire up.
