particle system occlusion

Post by casio_2000 » 24 Nov 2012, 19:19

HI,
i have a ice particle system. The shape of the particle instance objects in a group. Im looking to have some occlusion dynamicaly, so an occlusion ice compounds. The occlusion ice compounds i found, not working on a particle system with instance. Is there any hint you can give me for this effects?

Thanks a lot

instead of instances, probably you can go with some ICE operator which behaves like operator on mesh, making duplicates of polygons. Like Helge Mathee's Particle Instancer, or something that utilizes ICE topology operators.

Another solution, if an approximation is enough, could be some of particle density compounds. Approximation is uniform color on entire particle, or instance.

The density compunds looking interesting. Do you know one you can share where i can see the result direct in the viewport, without rendering?

Thanks again

As far as I know, if result of "particle density" compound is applied to particle color, you'll see color on instances, in viewport:
1: in wireframe view
2: in any mode, by going to 'Particle Display" property * (in explorer), automatically created for ICE point cloud. If you set this to "Box", you''ll see particle color applied to bounding box of instance. Playback is much better, too.

I meant old particle density compound by Thiago Costa. Anyway, method under the hood is simple, it's 'get neighboring particle' compound, percent of founded particle, and distance, is re-mapped to particle color.
