as we've said before fellas, forget the main Autodesk website for these types of things. We get far better coverage using things like Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/AutodeskSoftimage

Well, I wasn't blown-away by this "Production Focus".
I seem to recall the CGSociety creating less bland articles in the past...

And Facebook as the new M&E hub:
Should we read this as an admission of "guilt"/"failure", where the dreaded Area is concerned?

CGSociety has really gone down hill in the last few years IMO. Don't know if they have different people running it or if the ones that are there just don't care.

Most of their choices/articles/coverage choices are pretty lame. Looks like they're just catering to the sci-fi/fantasy character stuff to the exclusion of everything else.

Good to finally have something there on SI though. Pretty short shallow article but better than nothing.

I never said Facebook was our new hub, its just one of many 'tools' that we can use.
There's no guilt or failure around the Area, we can use it and post customer stories there, but they can take time to create and then we have to attract people to them. We can use things like Facebook or Twitter to basically help spread the word. By cross pollinating across various sites, overall we can achieve a far wider reach.

Here we go again...

(My highlight on the first word)

But you're obviously right: I was "so" wrong calling Facebook "the" new hub, while it's merely "a" new hub...
;)

edit: and BTW I deliberately placed "guilt" and "failure" between quotation marks
to hopefully slightly defuse their impact and for lack of a better term...

I should of been clearer, when I mean the main Autodesk website, I'm not referring to the AREA. I'm meaning autodesk.com and its localised versions.
Facebook, doesn't get more love than the Area, they're two different types of sites and used differently. AREA is ours and allows us more flexibility to do various things. We don't own Facebook, but its a great way of 'pushing' things out to the community.

It can look like like (to some) that we're using one thing more than another, but don't read too much into that. They compliment each other, rather than replace. For the past week, I've actually been a guest editor of the Facebook Softimage page, and I've been able to quickly highlight various customers work by sharing links to peoples work. Facebook/Twitter sometimes offers a quicker and easier way to push news out to the community, but if we wanted to do more deeper articles and stories later on, then the AREA would be a better place to have them.
The way we use Facebook, isn't revolutionary, in many ways no different to what many other businesses do. Pretty much marketing 101 these days.

It's nice to see Softimage Facebook page so active recently. (btw, have you noticed that Softimage has around 40% of Maya's number of fans on facebook, not bad :) )

anyway, great to see some article about project involving softimage on cgsociety, but i have to agree with others here, they could do much better...
