I am a student and new to Softimage. I am trying to import a new character, rig and skin, which I created in Maya but I need some help on how to import this correctly into CROWDFX. I know this is simple for most but can anyone help with the specifics of how to export my character correctly so it comes in ready for CROWDFX functionality?
Thanks everyone in advance for putting up with my lack of the basics

Hello
Well first off, have you tried using the standard Send to Softimage option in the Maya file menu?

If this is strictly about importing the model in a CrowdFX-friendly manner:
There is a (small) section called "Importing Models for CrowdFX",
listing specifically what you should watch when importing from Maya,
at the bottom of this page (Preparing a Model for CrowdFX) of the User's Guide...

I have tried both of these however it's still not working. I keep getting an error from Maya which says invalid selection set. What does this mean?

It can mean lots of things. There should be a description of the error in the popup window when you export. What does it say?DRL2013 wrote:I keep getting an error from Maya which says invalid selection set. What does this mean?
Anyway it may not be a massive problem as the rig and the mesh could still have exported a useable rigged character. Do you have anything sent to Softimage after you have exported?

No nothing is sent to Softimage. The error is reading a failure in the geometry cache set.

if you're new to Softimage, perhaps you forgot to create a new project and you're in the default read only one

OK then can you provide any information about the character and the rig you have made in Maya? Does it have a standard rig, single mesh envelope, etc? Are there any animation clips on the rig or geometry cache on the mesh? Any extra information you can provide will help speed this up a bit.DRL2013 wrote:No nothing is sent to Softimage. You can try exporting the FBX manually using the standard File/export menu. Maybe try having Geometry Cache File(s) ticked on and see what that does. It's hard to know what the problem is without a description of your rig.
