Guess I found it myself. Use exponent and use 1/3 as the power.

Correct!
Word of advice, for very small number approaching zero, test the main number x against a tolerance number say 0.0001 and skip the exponent operation all together by forcing the result to equal zero! You will save some computer cycle.
