Selectin start frame for ICE Simulation

Hi all,

I have a lagoa sim that is 500 frames long. I extended it to 1,000 frames once I was happy with the way the sim developed. However, I must have hit the max particle setting as from frame 501 there are no particles - they disappear from frames 501 to 1,000.

I increased the max particle level and now want to re-commence the sim from frame 501 taking the cached sim info from frame 500. How can I do this?

My first thought was "Cache Manager". This seemed to be the ticket but when I try to use this and reading the existing cache files I run into an issue of file name convention. The first 500 cached frames were generate using "Save Cache on Selection". This generate files with a name convention of pointcloud.0001.icecache. However, when I go into the Cache Manager and want to set up the extention to my sim it wants to name all the files as [version]_[frame].icecache. This results in a file name of pointcloud_#.icecache. So, when I try to re-run the sim it looks for pointcloud_500.icecache instead of pointcloud.0500.icecache and as such I generate an error.

Am I setting things up correctly? If so, why does different element psrts of ICE use different file naming convention? And how do you get them working in the same way? I've looked at my preferences and this doesn't give me any solution.

Can anyone assist?

Is the Simulation Environment the same as the Simulation tab in the Cache Manager? If so, I have already set the off-set to 500 so the first frame simulated in the re-start will be 501.

Also, I think the potential problem I'm having is in the file naming convention for the cache files. Have you any thoughts on that?

All,

I'm now having an issue with the simulation itself. It will not generte any particles above frame 500. At frame 501 all existing particle vanish and no new ones are generated.

I've checked the simulation environment which shows 1 to 1000 frames to be simulated.

Any assistance would be grately appreciated.

All,

I've been trying just about everything and nothing seems to work. The lagoa sim has cached out file for 1-500 frames. If I place this in a cached pointcloud it displays properly.

Now I want to take frame 500 sim file and use this as the starting point of an extended simulations. How do I get Softimage to read this file and place it as the starting point of my sim? I have tried using Simulation environment as Steve suggested. This doesn't seem to work. I have also tried to set it as the initial state but when I do this Softimage either starts the whole sim from the start from frame 500 or starts to resimulate all the frames up to 500!

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I'm pulling out my hair on this one!
