memory limit mental ray
If this is NOT set (the check box and amount), will mental ray try to use more than is available in the system and crash, or does it use what the system have available.

Re: memory limit mental ray
As far as I know, MR will crash with too heavy scenes without setting anything to prevent it.

Re: memory limit mental ray
i dont set this anymore. from my experience, this is not an issue anymore on 64bit systems.
it makes more sense to split you scene in passes or layers when you know the system ram is not enough, otherwise mr starts to cache the data on hd and this will end up in extremely high rendertimes.
