Some random image - drink dessert

Post by Maximus » 27 May 2012, 20:13

here an image i did for shading testing, Dof rendering and some test on metals.
Since it went far as test i finished.

Hope you like it, added some vignetting in post, dof is MR bokeh.
Liquid is bruteforce sss, 1 hdri and 1 physical light setup.

Looks nice but I think it would be nice to have something completely in focus, like the fruit on top. Maybe the DOF is a bit too intense and or the focus point is off a little?

love the liquid, nice bit of shading and froth, think the glass is a bit too thick and yes the DOF is too much in this case, and the spoon doesnt look like it will fit in the glass, but otherwise, a nice realistic looking render there! looks appetizing.
Gossip is what no one claims to like, but everybody enjoys.

tryin to set the dof correct, i am using an expression to link fstop and focal lenght but you know, no units in SI and bit of randomness. I'll upload another image in few :)

Can you render a portrait resolution ? and a cooler colors in the background
will balance a little bit the red Bouncing of the table, or change it for
a plastic table or marble one .

I see it like a cold fresh scene, because of the Ice Cream :D

For a still like this you don't have to use an expression if you don't want to. You can temporarily move your camera interest to what you want in focus and look at the distance to interest in the camera property editor and use that.

Yep that if you want an artistic look, but the correct DoF works in another way, its always related to f/stop, shutter and focal lenght, plus you gotta take into account the unit system and the overall scale. I'm running tests with maxwell/vray and Mental ray is the only one (as usual) that has every parameter disconnected between them, so if you want to achieve a photorealistic correct Dof you have to link those parameters, depending on the camera and all those stuff.

You can read something briefly here: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgr ... Fx1GRWJMaA
I'm doing lots of test and reading wiki, and there is an abysmal difference in DoF when you take into account those things, that is reason why when you fake it in 2d, especially for stills, you notice a "weird" dof going on.

My still is all in scale, the distance of the camera from the object is in real world units, so i'm tryin to get a precise Dof like if i were using a real camera, to see if the script works!
Anyway i checked and was my mistake, i didnt upload the script and so the DoF in this image is off, runnin render again!

Thanks again for comments
