ET_AnimStore on Linux : tip

Post by faizol » 25 Mar 2012, 07:38

Hi all,

Eric just updated his ET_AnimStore tools to be compatible with Python 2.5, which is used by Softimage on Linux platform. There's a few other changes needed to be done. Here's the tip to fix it.

The solutions are divided into two parts; setting a virtual environment to run python 2.5.2 in order to compile a third party utility, and the second one is basically to change some four lines from the ET_AnimStore utility file for compatibility with Python 2.5.

First part:
install python-virtualenv to use python 2.5.2 environment;

Code: Select all

sudo yum install python-virtualenv
download python 2.5.2 and compile it;

Code: Select all

wget http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.5.2/Python-2.5.2.tgz
tar xvf Python-2.5.2.tgz
cd Python-2.5.2
./configure USE="sqlite" --enable-shared --enable-unicode=ucs4
make
sudo make install
setup a temporary folder for the virtual env;

Code: Select all

mkdir ~/softimage.python
cd ~/softimage.python
virtualenv --python=python2.5 ~/softimage.python/
activate the environment;

Code: Select all

source ~/softimage.python/activate
wget http://pypi.python.org/packages/source/c/celery/celery-2.5.1.tar.gz#md5=c0912f29b69929219b353c748e0bf936
download the backported utility from python 2.6 to python 2.5 and compile it;

Code: Select all

tar xvf celery-2.5.1.tar.gz
cd celery-2.5.1
python setup.py build
python setup.py install
copy the site-packages to Softimage site-packages folder;
sudo cp -r ~/softimage.python/lib/python2.5/site-packages/* [Softimage_installation]/Application/bin/lib/python2.5/site-packages

The second part;
edit AnimStoreUtils.py to change a few lines

#line 37-
#change import itertools as it to import celery.utils.compat as it

#then at line 102, 125, 148
#change chain.from_iterable to chain_from_iterable

Also edit ET_AnimStore_GUI.py
#line 868 - capital V
strViewPath = XSIUtils.BuildPath(strPluginPath,"..","Views","ET_AnimStore_PoseCam.xsivw")
to
strViewPath = XSIUtils.BuildPath(strPluginPath,"..","views","ET_AnimStore_PoseCam.xsivw")

That's all for now. I guess the rest is just to test it out to make sure that the behaviour is as expected.

Cheers,
Faizol

Thanks for posting for everyone. I don't know much about compiling and configuring things on Linux so the previous steps should be done at your own risk and with the understanding I can't help much in that department. Just an FYI.

Hi Eric,

Since it's open-sourced now, I guess the community will try to help out as much as we can afford. Might not be up to the speed as the original programmer, but will try bit and pieces here and there, as much as we can help. Again, many many thanks for the wonderful plugin.

cheers,
Faizol.
