Scatter Particles Per Poly
Hi all,
I'm trying to place n particles on each polygon of a geometry. The problem is that 'Add Point' doesn't seem to accept an 'Array of Location per Polygon'.
Is this an ICE limitation or am I missing something here?
Feel free to try out the compound:

I can plug those ports together over here. I tried in 2010, 7.5, 7.01. and 7.0, and they all work.

ok but do the particles still spawn when plugging the location into the add point?grahamef wrote:I can plug those ports together over here. I tried in 2010, 7.5, 7.01. and 7.0, and they all work.
I can plug it in too but when I do it there are just no particles at all.

I'm using 7.01 32bit on Vista. So what could be causing this? I'll give it a try on an XP machine.

Thank you grahamef for checking out the compound. I tried it under WinXP and it works!grahamef wrote:I can plug those ports together over here. I tried in 2010, 7.5, 7.01. and 7.0, and they all work.
So on Vista 32bit this is just not possible... GOOD TO KNOW!
If somebody can report this bug it would be nice, because I can't find any place to submit a bugreport on that totally cluttered autodesk site.
Does anyone have an idea how to get this bug fixed without switching to another OS? I might try a .NET update...

I logged it for you, attached the compound, and linked to this thread.

Re: Scatter Particles Per Poly
A little belatedly I can confirm this issue on Vista 64 as well...
Not being able to properly report bugs unless you are "on subscription" seems a bit strange, though...
My vote would be for the return of some kind of web form...

Re: Scatter Particles Per Poly
thanks guys,
I will post here if I find any solution, which I doubt will happen.
If somebody can confirm that this issue doesn't exist on windows 7 I would be grateful!
(I have to decide wether to move to XP or wait for Windows7)

As a workaround, you should be able to emit at positions but then get self.pointposition, then get the closest location on the emitter, plug that into Set Data (self.emitlocation), and plug that into the On Creation port of Add Point.
I tried it here and it works, but on XP32, natch.
