mia bokeh lens

Post by Maximus » 19 Feb 2012, 14:04

Hey everyone,

i was wondering if anyone have any idea on how to use correctly this shader, i'm going crazy.
The problem is that the unit measure doesnt match the focus settings in the shader. I was reading the help but as usual it doesnt help at all.

From the help: Focal Plane Distance - The distance to the focal plane from the camera: a point at this distance from the camera is completely in focus.
Everything seems nice so far, but i'm doing something wrong because it doesnt work. What number should i put in the focal plane distance?
Because i activated the distance to output camera attribute and put that number of the selected object in the focal plane distance and ta daa it didnt work, everything was out of focus.

I cant think of any other number to put there if not the distance of an object from the camera itself. and its not working by a lot. Meaning that i had to correct it manually, Softimage gives me the object distance being like 49.90 and i had to put 7 in the focus plane distance, so yeah its not really intuitive.

Anyone can enlight me please?

thanks, Max

Couldit be the object center is away from the geometry? This could result in wrong values for 'distance to camera's

thanks rray, i'm doing some tests atm but no luck so far.. It always gives me weird output and not correct focus.
I'll try to check the center of geometry and maybe reset it.

Thanks, Max

the fous itself renders correct with bokeh lens shader (used it by myself for some renders).
have you scaled your cam or your cam parent? this is often a reason for wrong focal planes.

I just used it on this one: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2133

It worked fine there. Try moving your camera center of interest to where you want to focus and check the distance to camera to see what number you get.

Just by eyeballing it in the viewport, which number makes sense? 49 or 7?

thanks everyone, i fixed it using the move center to bounding box. My fault :)
