Hey guys, anyone knows a reliable and not too complicated way to achieve this kind of effect?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9xbGQfvbb0
the idea is to have 2 objects one on top of another, the outer one gets dissolved revealing the inside one.
so for the dissolve force i was thinkin about wind or something, it needs to be done with same material/textures on the geometry.
I saw the caffeine abuse dissolve tutorial but was lookin if there was an alternative solution.
Thanks for any input.
speakin about simulation, not rendering/shading btw.

Re: Dissolve / dust setup
this tutorial by Brad Gabe pretty much covers all that you would need for a simple to setup effect like in that krakatoa vid.
You could camera project an image (or render) onto your outer hull and read the nearest location>texture and use that to colour your particle.

Gossip is what no one claims to like, but everybody enjoys.

standard dissolve effect you see in all those videos is turbulence. you can also try curl noise framework for cooler effect

This effect is nice but how to achive this with a moving hand/object?
The particles that should stick don't stick if the object is moving...
Edit: disregard i wasn't putting into the root.
