Volume light and volume shader - can they work together?

Post by ActionArt » 08 Nov 2011, 19:45

This is a very simple test but I want to set up a fairly complex scene with light shards coming through a layer of clouds using ice particles as the clouds.

So far it seems that when the light rays hit the bounding box of the particles they treat it as a box (obviously not the desired effect).

Right now I'm using the "volumic" property on the light and the particle renderer compound for the clouds.

Any suggestion on how this could be done? It has to be very high-res and high quality but for a still shot.

The easy (albeit: frustrating) answer to the question in the thread title: No! (AFAIK)
You'd probably have to render the volumic effect separately and bring it back in compositing.
;)
Stay safe, sane & healthy!

Dang. I was hoping to have the volume particles effect the light streams which would be trickier in separate passes. This was an easy thing to set up in LW but admittedly extremely slow rendering.
