Hi to all and just a few questions!

I would like to take this opportunity to say hello to everyone here, good to be involved at the infancy of what i think will be a very popular forum.

I do have an ulterior motive to this post however and it comes loaded with a few questions
I am currently a max user(i know i know..but read on!), i have used it for ages and all of the studios/ jobs i have done in the past have been 3ds max based. Now myself and a small group of very talented artists are getting together to form a small studio in dublin, most of us (myself not included) are 2d traditional and flash users. I am currently researching development of our 3d pipeline and after many discussions with the team we have settled on softimage...me being a max user all my careerer am strangely exited about the change and the reason we picked softimage is because the other guys found it a lot more accessible and intuitive than max...so i have to get learning again haha
I would really appreciate if anyone could offer advice on developing a small studio pipeline or point me in the right direction? and also what is the best way for me to transfer my 3ds skills over to xsi...anyone out there been in the same boat and pulled through?

Although I have no experience with Max whatsoever, this blog could be interesting to you, even though it seems a little bit dated (as Max is called Autodesk/Discreet's Max, which it hasn't for quite a while now, I believe)

I was a max user and switched to si when i got into character modeling. You should be able to excel using si both have there pro's and con's. The most recent improvements with si that i have enjoyed has been the "UV Unfolder" it used to be very time consuming unwrapping models but now piece of cake i enjoy it. Plus i see si only getting better in time unless Autodesk kills it but so far i have only seen improvements.

Well one of the reasons www.Redi-Vivus.com was created was to help people convert, to help people starting out, to help new companies give training at no cost, which makes for more skilled staff. Which makes for better work, which makes for better jobs, which makes for more money, which makes for more staff.

So I would start out with the "Production Series", because it's still one of the best, and they are all short(ish), and that way you can remained intensely focused on exactly what your trying to learn. And you wont get overwhelmed, and you can learn the techniques, as you go.

The others are much longer (like up to 3hours long) so they require you to manage your time much more effectively.

But which ever you choose, we're glad that we can help. Good luck with the new venture.
