Some Work..

Post by Magog » 11 Jul 2011, 09:34

The images were all made with Softimage and Octane Render.
Apart from some plants and lighting everything else I've modeled myself.

C&C welcome. :)

Looks impressive... :-bd
Personally I like the ones called "finalsite*" best.
The downside of so many pictures in one post is that it seems harder to critique them individually...
(And the post gets kinda "image heavy.)
Maybe a "Finished Work" thread per image in the future?
;)

You're right.
The next time I open a topic at a time.
Except that now I did not want to open 10 different topics

@Milanvasek:
I know, the material water is still my weak point. :-\
thanks your comment! :)

Hi!

Great work! Looks very good. Some textures seem to be a little low res here and there (wood, stone and bumps..).
What do you think about the workflow with octane? What´s your opinion?

Best,
oliver

PS: ...I´ve put it on the gallery ;)

Hey magog, congrats! Nice work...

About Octane, would you mind telling me a bit more how it works in Softimage? Do you export the scene from within SI and then do all the shading work in Octane. Or do you shade stuff in the render tree as usual? Can you preview the render in the viewport?

Thanks for the info...

@owei: Tnx a lot!!
Unfortunately, in some scenes, because of the lack of vram, some textures have been resized, so you have the loss of quality.
I currently use a GTX 580 1.5GB.
With the next WS, i will add another with 3Gb.
As for Octane, I am very optimistic about this engeene. I believe a lot in Octane, although it is very young, the team is doing a hard work to deliver a quality product, and each new release offers more small and new innovations that elevate its quality and always help the workflow.
There are still many things like the ability to create pass (ex: shadows, z-depth, multi uv for a single mesh, mask ...) or displacement .. But as the team tries to listen to users to improve the sw ... And this is a good thing.
I chose Octane after having tested many others sw ..
With Octane I have found a quality / time truly impressive. Almost all the images you see are created in double (some of them three times) the current size, and 1h / 1h 30min I had ready a clean image.
Obviously, the scenes where there is very glossy, transparency, IES files, it is normal cooking time will increase, but the new release with many new agevolazioi the calculation have been included to speed up the work.

Tnx again for the gallery.

@Nizar. Ciaaauuuu Belloooooo!!! ;) Tnx Man!!!!! :)

@gustavoeb:
When you purchase the license of Octane, you have access to many topics in the forum, including one dedicated to the plug for the various 3D apps.
At the beginning is not easy to enter in a new way of working, but after taking the hand is a wonderful thing.
I have a card GT220 - 1 Gb for video and GTX580 for rendering. Therefore, when calculating the render, I can WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS, continue to devote to other work on XSI, or do post-production or whatever. With Mr. if I make a calculation, I just have to take so many many coffee .. :)
Also released today was the new plugin for XSI to export octane. Small preview:

Looking great - i like the "Colibri" image best - but did you use a specular material for the water? Or did it increase time/hotpixels too much? I find setting up water really easy but the bounces often don't play nice if you have too complex meshes interacting with reflections on the water. (i play with Octane sometimes ;) )

Very interesting! Nice to see something from Octane. Excellent work.

I see what you mean about some textures being re-sized. It's encouraging that you can produce these results in that time.

Thanks for the info!

Thank you guys!

I still have to work hard to improve many things, such as materials, especially the water! :)
