Luckily it still doesn't work that way... #:-s
(edit: by which I mean, the Maya devs & the Softimage devs have different things to fix, or so one assumes, making it hard to compare their release schedule for fixes...)

The Hotfix/Service Pack discussion is (more or less) part of this thread...

Steve Blair from Softimage Support posted a video yesterday (06/06/2011) that clearly says 2012 SP1, so hopefully it wont be long before they release it in the wild.

Stuff is being betatested atm, and things are being fixed. Just be patient, as no one wants to get a rushed SP1 out the door.

Just teasing, of course, but am I correct in assuming that the SP1 currently is being beta tested by the same group of people who "missed" (some of) the problems in the original beta test to begin with?

Some of the issues were reported quite early in the beta, but were (MR related and) harder to fix in a fixed time period.

And like I said before, it's a thin line between testing beta's and doing actual work in production. It not always levels out, no matter how much we would like to see that happening.
If you want to have a voice in this, try to sign up on the beta ;)

Sure, but then I couldn't complain about the beta testers in public anymore :ymhug:

One thing I have always been wondering about concerning beta testing (in general):
is there a separate RC testing team or are there at least some people entering
the testing only at the RC stage (for a completely "fresh" look at things)?

There's the obvious automated testing for any new release of SI, and there's the 'manual' testing. People get an invite to participate, and receive links to every build that is released.
Feedback from people goes back into the system, and bugs and/or additional workflow improvements are logged and fixed/implemented when there's time or a real need.
Testing at the RC stage would be a little late ;)

Other than that, sign up for the beta!!!!!!! :p :p

Yes, I understand that. But some testing should be done at this stage too (with the implied "room for improvement"), one would (naively) suspect, otherwise a separate RC stage would be totally pointless IMHO.

Or is this just terribly naive ("he's obviously not on the beta list") thinking?

There's testing throughout all beta releases, it would be silly to call it a RC and not have testing on that one too....
But not all newly found bugs/issues can end up fixed before the official release comes out. There's always a fixed release date set by AD, and working against the clock is always pointless.....

That's it for me, sign up for the beta!!!!! :p :p :p

How does one do that? I haven't noticed any invitation from AD or link or anything.

The invite just pops up in the mailbox after sacrificing a certain number of kittens to AD..... :p :p

Or was it knowing the right people.... Don't know anymore, but I luckily didn't run out of kittens before that.... ;)

Would dogs be accepted? There are a number of neighbors' dogs that I'd be happy to sacrifice. :D

I'll give it a try.
