The most envy tools from other software

Actually my most envy tools are luxology modo selection:
- In Face mode, double left click: select all the adjacent face
- In edge mode, double left click: select a loop
- In edge mode, select two edge, then press keyboard up arrow and it continue select. Really like this one, you can select a edge, then ignore two, and select another, when you press up arrow the software will select the next edge after two (so you have an interval between your selection of two edge (or one or three as you want), then you can press L key and all the selected edge loop will select (I find it really fast)
- Record selection: can be memorized a selection and call it when you want.
Other modo envy tool is macro records: start the record, doing your operation, then stop it, so copy the script output in a pie menu (really fast and useful, you can doing customized piemenu as you want) or key shourtcut and when you call it the software repeat the operation. Really useful when doing repetitive task

Do exist nothing similar in XSI? I mean some scripts or anything that allow to do similar

Envy will eat you alive.
You can bind loop and grow to keyboard shortcuts.
For example go to keyboard mapping ,find "select tool" in left list and set "Select component range/loop" to be your current selection key.
That way, while in select mode, when you hold your selection key (mine is Q) you can select loop and range, no need to map it to another key.
You can bind "grow" and "shrink" selection to keyboard as well.

As far as the selection recording, there are "Selection sets" from Chinny, try here http://www.xsibase.com/tools/plugins.php?detail=1112

Custom quad menu can be found here, I suggest Qmenu. http://rray.de/xsi/

Everything you do is logged in the script editor (curved sheet of paper icon, below the timeline), you can make/save scripts from there, or drag code from it to your UI and have it as a button.

Although I cannot view video files on your machine, I understand what you're saying as I use Silo.
Unfortunately there is no mouse customization in Soft, but v2012 brings modeling improvements as well as huge interactive tool SDK updates.
That could be very powerful.

Now I just recalled there was addon for softimage which does what you need.

Hi Nizar,

If you hold down the alt-key and middle mouse button click it will select loops of edges or polygons. If you hold alt-key and left click it will select a range.

The loop feature is similar to what you want. I use it all the time and it's very handy.

I use the Maya navigation method but changed my navigation key to the space bar so I could use the alt key this way.

Hi actionart, I already know how work selection mode in XSI, but prefer the Modo one. If you look the video I posted below you can see it at work (really close to silo, but add many interesting option)
You cage your navigaiton mode on spacebar? I'm in XSI interaction mode (S key), and I cannot remap the Z key (the useless zoom)...

Still, you cannot select loop/range with double click, select every n-th component, or continue selection like he suggested.

I found that mapping loop/range to same key as plain selection tool (Q) is the fastest way to interact.No need for ALT at all.
I mapped tweak tool to TAB and cycle through manipulators (next/previous manipulator) to CTRL+TAB,cursor transform tool to SHIFT+TAB, and it flies.
Just few keys.

I don't want insist but... did you see the video I posted? Please, give a look, it is more then a simple loop selection.

In the useful link posted by Mamag I found a interesting script for UVlayout export in a single click. I installed, but when try to export XIS give me error "please check the UVlayout home Path correctly set!", if I control script message I found a wrong place. How can set right place? In the script maker I don't found any info about.

Seems like there is an HeadusUVtools attribute in the scene, find it in explorer and set your headus path there.

I preferred the modo method for lots of selection work when I first changed to XSI. I must say I prefer the XSI method over modo now. Not all is as it should be but I find (for example) that adding or removing from selections is much easier and quicker in XSI.

My envy list:
- freeform lasso tool like Lightwave and modo. XSI has one but it's far from the same. The default box/marquee behaves like it. It's just that it's not freeform which IMO would make a lot selections sessions easier and faster.
- macro recording. I can do very few things before I'm forced to read the docs about how and what to change in the scrip editor, in order for my macros to be universal.
- better exposed render times. I personally find the lack of this to be ridiculous.
