Just wanted to post this incase people were not aware. This animated short was made with XSI 6.5. Nice to see Softimage/XSI popping more and more lately.

And here I was, naively thinking rendering in Mental Ray wasn't allowed in "real production".
(But as they used XSI 6.5 they probably didn't get the memo in time)

Why even bother posting if that is the comment you thought of - time to get off your high horse. I just posted the link because it is nice to see that Softimage (XSI) was mentioned in the production rather than Maya, that you see every other film is made with...

And to add something constructive:
personally I find it very interesting to know what software is used for these kinds of projects.
This is mere curiosity, I must admit, but curiosity isn't necessarily a bad thing always... ;)

Knowing what software is used makes a big difference when it comes to marketing and sales, and I as well, prefer to know what was used. Any images that are posted, or films/commercials, or anything else that is published on the net or in 3D World, usually is always accompanied by what was used. If everything posted said it was made with Maya, guess what people would be buying... I was just bringing light to the fact that a current Oscar nominated film was made with software that a lot of us had recent doubts about its future. For some reason, an immmature comment was made on this thread, which was strictly inline with the announcement of LOOM, using Softimage as well. Sorry, Hirazi, I like this forum a lot, but comments like the one that was made are going to start bringing this place down like that of one of the most popular forums out there.

My last "warning" was not directed at you alone, it was more of a preemptive strike to prevent this thread from getting out of hand. BTW I don't think comments like that are bringing this forum down. People forgetting to post still seems to be the first reason for the ultimate demise of the si-community. But that's besides the point.

I agree, this site has been quiet for a while. Hopefully news about the 2012 lineup would spark some new threads. The point I was making earlier though; it is sometimes better to not post anything at all, if one doesn't have something constructive to say, rather than posting something off-the-cuff that makes one look like an elitist compared to someone else. In due time, that will move a lot of people to look elsewhere...

A tad late but congrats to Shaun Tan, Andrew Ruhemann and Passion Pictures for winning the Oscar this year for this short!
