Architectural material anisoptropy issue 7.01 -> 2011.5

Post by owei » 11 Jan 2011, 17:21

Hi there!

Today I cam across a strange thing. Shading anisotropy highlights/reflections seems not to work in 2011.5 with teh arch material.
I used a nurbs surface with a uv map on it. It produces nice reflections/highlights on the flat side of the cylinder in 7.01, but I was not able to mimic this with 2011.5 or 2011. Any ideas..?

What happens, when you "fallback" on the "native MR" "mia_material" shader? :-\

...well, it doesn´t seem to be a problem of the shader..I´m sorting out right now...more or less there seems to be something wrong with the UV projection..

..okay, it seems to be a problem with the shader. It does not take care of the uvs when calulating anisotropic reflections. I´ve tested a simple anisotropic shader..the veeery old one, and it worked. Strange..

Can you report that to AD if you haven't already?
I, myself, have reported/logged a few bugs with the rendering side of things in the latest release of Softimage. The more things that are reported the more solid the program becomes, and the pics you showed are perfect examples.

...Yes, I would like to send this bug report to AD. Paerhaps anybody else could please confirm this bug..? THANKS!

cheers,
oliver

I don't say these words easily, but:
maybe you should try to get some feedback/confirmation from the XSIBase :-s

Just made a quick test with the same results. SI 2011.5 64bit

With the old Anisotropic shader no problem.

But no way to get the same effect with the Arch mat.

Confirmed ;)

You don't necessarily need to confirm this to send it in - tech support confirms everything on their end before they officially log anything as an official bug that needs to be fixed. They will either recreate the issue, or ask you for the scene or a test scene that you used to make sure no parameters were changed...however, that might be only if you are on subscription.

i'm having lots of trouble to render out anisotropic using enhanche xsi shaders texture with architectural material.
In the first place i plugged some gradient map to alter the anisotropic rotation and it didnt render correct, i switched to mia_material and it rendered just fine.

Also connecting enhance xsi shaders to architectural material slow down the render time by A LOT, i just switched back to mia_material and everything works and render fine..

I find Arch material really buggy since 2010 version..
I'm back to using Mia_Material for everything now.
