Which making of (where XSI was used in the beginning for the Aerial view ) are you talking about ? Tekkonkinkreet or Monster in Paris ?Sil3 wrote:A Monster in Paris (2011)

According to the Making Of, Xsi was only used in the very beginning for the Aerial View of the movie, they mapped the hand painted textures to 3d geometry and it was basically it.Hirazi Blue wrote:Tekkonkinkreet

While it's true Tekkonkinkreet, with all the 2D, wasn't exclusively XSI - although it was probably the only 3D software used on the project - I seem to recall reading there was a bit more 3D (i.e. XSI) going on, [edit:] especially the camera work.Sil3 wrote:According to the Making Of, Xsi was only used in the very beginning for the Aerial View of the movie, they mapped the hand painted textures to 3d geometry and it was basically it.
This is a nice little video on the use of the CG environments and camera:

Ugh, I've said this so many times in the various threads.... Animal Logic uses Softimage for Rigging & Animation. Rendering is done in Maya using Renderman and on Lego a bit of their home grown renderer. VFX are done in Maya and a bit of Houdini.
Another film heavily made with Softimage was Walking With Dinosaurs. Rigging, Animation, and Character Cleanup in Softimage.

I was referring to Tekkonkinkreet, sorry if I wasn't clear.xsi_fanatic wrote:

Howl's Moving Castle also used Softimage to Rig and Animate the Castle Parts:

Edit:
Found this Making Of in Japanese with Spanish subtitles, I though they had used the new Softimage, but it seems they used to both versions:

Re: Animated Features done with Softimage ?
Inevitably once a creature is rigged and animated, deformations are never 100% perfect. Muscle systems give in to extreme poses, characters collide and thus you need to deform the skin post animation to feel the collision, and you need to add additional effects. If you look at the trailer for Walking With Dinosaurs where the 2 dinosaurs butt heads, all those wrinkles and waves going down their face / neck / back was done post animation. Basically you take the cached out mesh and fix / clean up / add additional effects.
ICE played a huge part in that process not only being able to package effects into compound and reapply later, but also for throwing deformations together quickly on the fly on a per shot basis.

I can confirm that, VFX was the only non-softimage department on that projectOzAdi wrote:JUSTIN AND THE KNIGHTS OF VALOUR
