l noticed the blending is nicer if you do what the calculate weights node does, and square the distances twice before inverting and normalising.

Yes, you can use any power you want (as long as it's positive), or even a different function for the falloff as Daniel mentioned.

did someone find a good solution for interpolating a value on a 2D plane?
The solutions in this thread are all giving me either this kind of result:

or something that's not smooth enough.
A solution like this (photoshop) would help, where there is no more influence of green "behind" the red dot

of course for any number of dots
