You know what I don't care what they call it... he can have it called "mirrored sunglasses WILL come back in fashion one day" for all I'm concerned.
What I do care about is - most are only updated once every 3-6 months or less...(apart from Bellsey), so there not much point in visiting there, more that twice a year.
On the other hand...Stephen Blair's.....
now THAT truly was a blog par excellence (on crack, steroids and just about every other pharmaceutical known to man).
A brilliant job. That dare I say actually 'Helped' the product, by helping the users, who helped the blog. Nice to see someone who understood the 'symbiotic' relationship.

Good point.
Yes the Stepen Blair one was really a blog.
Maybe who is a member of Area can point to it and ask to mr.Mokgc if there will be anything comparable.

The frequency of posts to the AREA blogs, is I think, a fair point. Some guys don't post as often as they should and perhaps they don't realise how hard blogging can sometimes be. It can almost be a full-time job and you have to be clear what and why you're even blogging about in the first place, for it to work. Personally I like to make sure it doesn't get too long inbetween posts. Sometimes there can be some longer gaps but that can often be down to work schedule or perhaps a lack of something to blog about.Letterbox wrote:You know what I don't care what they call it... he can have it called "mirrored sunglasses WILL come back in fashion one day" for all I'm concerned.

If you can't keep doing blog posts on some kind of regular basis, then you shouldn't really be blogging.
From a support view, Stephens blog is/was excellent, and to be fair the Max and Maya equivalents are also good.

Gotta disagree with you there Bellsey.
Because the manager of the area should be keeping an eye on this. And ask do we really need a mayalicious, mayastation & duncans corner etc (i never read max). Can't we merge them into one and solve the frequency problem at the same time.
Now i know there are probably points, in saying 'whoo I have an area blog', but not from the point of view of the user, when they get there and nothing is new for months on end.
From the advertising industry point of view, its know as 'Dilution of the brand', something that, for example, large successful fmcg companies dont like or every want.

Re: Cory Mogkc introducing himself to the SI community
It's the individuals responsibility to maintain their blog and post on a regular basis and if they can't do that, then they should question on whether it worthwhile them doing it. People should of been told this when their blog was set up. However I really do think people really underestimate the amount of work you have to put in. Granted for some time the actual blogging system wasn't that great and creating posts did seem like a chore, but it has been vastly improved and its way easier now.
If you notice now though, when you go to the AREA blog landing page, we don't show all the blogs at once so it confuses people. Only the blogs that have recent posts get shown. It's a simple thing and perhaps doesn't deal with the whole problem, but I think it does make a difference.

The comments are not really about Autodesk and what you should or should not do, thats a pointless exercise... so yes, it's not all about you.
It's just an good example of brand dilution, users disappointment, and how people on here can learn by that.
For example, if there are 4 maya blogs and 3 are hardly updated, that means i have a 75% change of being disappointed. Why would you want to do that to the customer? If you walk into a apple store, buy or no, you wont walk out with a 75% change of feeling disappointed. How does that relate to people on here?
A in case your a visual learner here's a good video showing that
As I said its not about Autodesk, what it is about is people learning and understanding this. Branding.
So when freelancers and new people make their web sites and show reels they understand this and don't dilute what they are trying to sell, them, their brand, be it modelers, or vfx or animators they dont fall into the above traps by disappointing viewers or by overselling thru incorporating everything under the sun, or have websites that makes it hard to navigate, or disappointing content.
Less sometimes IS more.
And after all these closures everywhere, and people looking for work, I cant think of a better time to focus on the real meaning of the subject.

his name is actually Mogk.
the "c" at the end is for Cory.
I've always thought it was a Klingon name..

Give him the time to produce something.
