Re: SI 2013 sightings
I'm pretty sure they have dedicated work days on Max for "small annoying things", so they are not being balanced other priorities, but rather against each other. The Max will will continue to address this pile of bugs every release. there is a separate forum for 'small annoying things"

Not only ICE Nodes...
Don't throw the good ol' SDK in the ditch so fast! Plenty of "small annoying things" to fix there, too.

Hmm, that might be interesting. Thanks for the heads-up...
Autodesk, however, should try to get its message across slightly more accurately:
PS Yes, I know: nit-picking...

This is obviously true, but only for "users of the Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya Entertainment Creation Suites" of the "Premium" (or "Ultimate") variety, to be painfully correct...This allows even new Softimage users to quickly create their unique crowd simulations which is perfect for users of the Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya Entertainment Creation Suites!

Yea, I just got my email notification on this too. I was pretty surprised when I first read it that it was actually pretaining mainly to Softimage and not Max or Maya - like these events notifications usually do.ActionArt wrote:There's a crowd sim demo coming up.

Re: SI 2013 sightings
User-Voice would definitely be geared mostly towards "small annoying things", but users will refuse to limit themselves to that. I think it will also give a good overview of what are the areas people are really keen on seeing improved.
While im sure the thing about the roadmap is true, it also seems that softimage team has some additional room to work with. CrowdFX was, as i understand, a result of speaking with a couple of bigger clients (studios) who tried to implement it by themselves, but got stuck due to some limitations...
I have nothing against this new addition (i think its quite cleaver actually since no other package has something like it), but if you were to put it on a uservoice, how many would vote for it? Not a large percentage, i presume. And thats where i see the value of uservoice. Product manager can disregard it completely, of course, but it would at least give him/her a vague idea what are the priorities of all users - if they differ from the roadmap immensely, a sane person would think long and hard before they decide its worth going against your own userbase.
My two cents

Re: SI 2013 sightings
I think the product manager wouldn't need any User Voice website for that specifically as Softimage has the benefit of several active community websites, he (or she) may browse once in a while to get a glimpse of what the user's priorities seem to be. But even knowing what the user's priorities are, sadly, a roadmap is a roadmap and changes to that probably cannot be made all that easily. And that's the main problem with the User Voice stuff, even if you add a big fat disclaimer people are still going to think something that has been voted for many times must be implemented and will be annoyed if you don't. Our way: we don't know what they're about to implement and in the end are annoyed anyway seems slightly more economical...bottleofram wrote:Product manager can disregard it completely, of course, but it would at least give him/her a vague idea what are the priorities of all users - if they differ from the roadmap immensely, a sane person would think long and hard before they decide its worth going against your own userbase.

Re: SI 2013 sightings
I respectfully disagree. An unofficial channel (and bad official one) can never be a good indicator of user's priorities. Its the crudest possible approximation worth nobody's time. Which is why AD will have an ear for beta testers and bigger clients rather than forum posters. On the other hand, properly collecting data, even if there are no plans to act upon them, should not be something they shy away from.Hirazi Blue wrote:I think the product manager wouldn't need any User Voice website for that specifically as Softimage has the benefit of several active community websites, he (or she) may browse once in a while to get a glimpse of what the user's priorities seem to be.bottleofram wrote:Product manager can disregard it completely, of course, but it would at least give him/her a vague idea what are the priorities of all users - if they differ from the roadmap immensely, a sane person would think long and hard before they decide its worth going against your own userbase.

You're right, though. Big companies do tend to distance themselves in order to protect economic interest... In my opinion, they just hurt it that way.

Re: SI 2013 sightings
But then again: "vague idea" was your wording, not mine and I reacted accordingly... And for a "vague idea" the user communities can truly help, however inofficial they may be & however unable to truly represent the whole user base. If there is a better way (and I admit, there should be), I'm all for it. But I doubt the "User Voice" approach is the way to go either...

User voice is great because user have limited number of votes. It forces people to decide what's truely important as oposed to having endless wish lists nobody reads. Users have to compromise and reach consensus with others.

Re: SI 2013 sightings
But on the other hand, especially the limit on the number of votes might also be considered a shortcoming of the system
and generally speaking good ideas aren't necessarily always the result of consensus...

achieved through consensus = popular
popular = money

What do you mean fix kine?TwinSnakes007 wrote:Anyone that has SI 2013, did they fix kine or allow you to set pivot from ICE?
You can't set pivot parameters as they are local kine properties. Though you could offset transforms when setting the global kine.
