I have never seen Maya been advertised as a "companion to" Max or vise versa sure this could be said of all software they have a different niche BUT lets be honest could you really imagine Max being sold to Max users as a "companion to" Maya... you think we little SI users get pissy =))

I agree very vague.. but what can you really say to these answers you guys are basically saying all is great so I would expect great things... we now expect great things by the way :p

well this is all we can do really, hopefully try and explain things in the best and appropriate way that we can, and then hope people don't read too much into things, which of course they inevitably do. :)

Well I guess we won't read anything into these answers which in some ways makes this whole discussion a complete waste of time, that is not to sound rude in anyway I assure you, but if we are take AD's attitude of "don't read into anything we say but we are not saying much." Then people slowly get disillusioned.

It is similar to a tradesman saying "I will be at your place between 8am -5pm on a Friday..." you have no idea what Friday and are expected to wait around with that sinking feeling in the back of your mind that they are not coming.

We will wait and see I guess.

I'm not sure that's a good comparison really, suppose to look at it from the other way. Said tradesman commits and guarantee's his arrival time, and also any work will be completed at a set date/time. You maybe act on that and maybe make some arrangements, but then what happens when the person doesn't arrive on time, or if he does, doesn't complete work on time? It can cut both ways.

Anyway, slightly off track, but we are constantly explaining to people about the rules in which we operate. And I can see how released information can be interpreted and frustrating builds, I've been a customer in the past.
My advice though, would be for people to try and dialog with Autodesk the best they can, be it directly or through events. When I've been to see customers and explained things, people sometimes feel a little better, as they've heard things first hand.
Many Autodesk people are on forums like this, some post, some don't. Personally I like to see whats happening and try and offer as much info as I can and are able to.

Ok no problem, I don't want to come off sounding like a total disgruntled user... I am very fond of Autodesk and all their hard work, sometimes as a consumer with you guys you just want some straight shooting but I totally understand the constraints as you as an individual are under and anything said is not a personal attack in anyway.

Cheers

+1
I am no 100% disgruntled user either, actually I am still a fan,
however unbelievable that may sound, considering my many cynical remarks.
(otherwise I wouldn't still be moderating this community either 8-} )
Don't mistake criticism and cynicism for downright apathy and pure negativism... ;)
I'm just a hobbyist (with no talent whatsoever) still with Softimage after all this years,
you must be doing something right, I guess... :ymparty:

Did anyone catch the Zbrush4 preview movie, the hardedge tools look awesome, can see the pipeline now... Zbrush modeling, 3d coat retopology/uv's/maps and then into XSI.

All this silence mean: "No Goz/XSI on the way"?

The difference at the moment is that you can create your displacements etc in Zbrush and GOZ will set up your network on to a material in Maya/Modo/Max/C4D which is pretty handy... this like mentioned is a stop gap so you can transfer your objects/subtools between both apps which makes for a handy little script at this point, who knows if we will see GOZ for Softimage maybe it will come out with VRay 8-}

I think if people want to know about GoZ and Softimage, then Pixelogic are probably the best people ask.

from Zbrushcentral:
As Pixolator's post says, GoZ will be a feature of ZBrush, i.e. part of the application. An SDK will be released so that other apps can be added by anyone who has the necessary resources and expertise.
