Hate to contradict you on something i dont know much about, SreckoM, but i remember seeing someone make a live connection between houdini and maya to use maya as a modeler. Now, that to me says something important about hou's modeling capabilities...

I must dissent with your sentence, not say nothing for me. This plugin you refers, is useful for everyone are used to maya modelling tools, and give nothing indication about modelling Houdini capabilities.bottleofram wrote:Hate to contradict you on something i dont know much about, SreckoM, but i remember seeing someone make a live connection between houdini and maya to use maya as a modeler. Re: Houdini 12
Houdini aint software for modeling, except procedural one.
It aint also replacement for any all around softwares like max/maya/si etc
The presentation is cool but if you find ICE 'hard' to learn, you better not look into H.
btw, that explosion smoke from video was divided to simulate on multiple computers, cause if you would dare to sim in on single it would need 256GB of ram.
Also look at the prices.
But if you're willing to learn, I'm pretty sure you will find work easily. for example I know couple of maya-lw guys who learned H. in 1-2 years and landed @ weta.

Re: Houdini 12
In case anyone is trying it out on Ubuntu 11 like me...you also need to install iscsitarget before you can run sudo ./houdini.install
Edit: Man, Houdini is no doubt powerfull, but its not easy to learn that's for sure...and you probably need a nice farm to get anything out of Mantra. I read some posts on other forums where they accept 1-5 hours per frame out that thing as the average time.
