has autodesk ever looked into going the adobe route?

Adobe has made older versions of not in use software available to those who purchased it, and versions that do NOT require the software to phone home for activation.

It's a life saver because i can now use adobe audition 3.0 for ever and not migrate to the cloud. Same goes for CS2 photo shop.

How tough would something like that be to implement? A Proof Of Purchase receipt, and a special locked version of that program so it can't be distributed, only downloaded or backed up?

there has to be a bone thrown to softimage users since it's pretty clear autodesk bought it just to kill it.
