These renders are pretty impressive, coming from Modo.

Thanks for the review Tim. I'm hoping that the animation has improved. I keep reading that animating in Modo is a very good exercise of patience.

Yeah Seth's work is great. Tomas Sciskala has some nice ones too. I didn't get to render too much this time (apart from a couple of Megascans tests). Too much going on.

Animation tools didn't get much attention this time around. A few things here and there.

Wow ... amazing images from you and Tomas.

As for animation in Modo, if the performance improves, I guess it's the major thing. New tools are easier to do than performance improvements (I think). Let's wait and see.

It's only me again, hehe.

Great modcast from Brad Peebler. Man ... Softimage would never gone down with a PM like him. :)

P.S.: Modo 901 docs are online.

Unfair comparison, imo

Great presenter and personality though.

Not really. I doubt Brad would have allowed it to be put on the backburner, have the resources that were supposed to have been brought onto it (and paid for by our subscriptions) be redirected to other projects. (forget the exact project that Luceric mentioned)

With theFoundry merger the pace of development has increased dramatically , where as under Autodesk if new tech was brought into Softimage , it pretty much came there to die. Softimage and Modo after acquisition are incredibly different different beasts and that largely is down to who is prepared to look after its interests as a product.

I can't judge if all the idolization of Brad Peebler is justifiable,
but him being a business man makes me seriously doubt if he had handled this all that differently.
Especially if he had been an Autodesk employee at the time...
;)

It's a little bit too much ideal world thinking.
And though there are many similarities, the products are different as are their contexts regarding company and product folio.

Its about respecting someone who has shown time and again that he is prepared to actually listen to people, and to act in the best interests of the end user. Has he always got it right, no, but he has always admitted when they have buggered it up and what they will do to make it right. That's a very far cry from how Softimage was handled by Autodesk.

and to Bellsey not really. Its just a nicer way of saying that certain people in charge of running Softimage at Autodesk sold their user base down the river.

Completely agree with you Angus.

Even MAXON is taking some heat right now at C4DCafe because of their lack of transparency. And than you have Brad, that created a more open community and relationship with it's customer. You may not like it, heck, maybe even Brad is regretful of creating such a relation, but that is cool to see him tackle the problems, it is.

Now ... on a side note, I was reading and there's a user saying that the performance for animation hasn't improved much. Viewport rotation yes, animation no. Let's wait and read more about how the users are experiencing.

They're talking about animation performance because they want to diminish the Maya 2016 message, and it's probably working for their fans. But what's happened in Maya is not merely "playback optimization", the Maya DG evaluation has been multi-threaded and the animation GPU-accelerated. It was already much faster than anything else before that. But adsk is not good at explaining any of this stuff.

The new speed ups in Maya 2016 are very impressive with regards to animation. My only issue with Maya Viewports now is the need to constantly switch between them when things go wonky. This is their 4th attempt at an updated Viewport ;)

Brian Horgan (Maya and C4D animatior/rigger) said that animating in Maya 2016 is a breeze. Super fast, etc. That's the most important, that a feature works. :)

The comparison in question (for now).

Imho behavior of Maxon or AD, it's typical for huge numbers they are selling, where product sells alone. No need for more. Heat on forums, this works for individual users here and there, but not really for boss who have to buy this thing, especially not for some managing board.
Maybe there is some cultural difference on my side - but - actually I feel proud because I grew up in 'civil' environment of 3d Studio Max, not as a member of some semi-religious sect. Especially I don't care about bullshit, how some manager is 'putting his soul' into his work - it's his damn job and his salary.
In any case, if there are plans to sell Modo more, they'll have to change the advertising concept.

Sure, but the case being that C4D for some time has problem with larger scenes or animation (same with Modo) and something that Max, Maya and XSI have a much better performance.

Brad being a nice guy only adds if the product is good. If Modo sucks, there's no point of me liking him, since I won't buy the product.
